Student swims for success

Jak is the club captain for this year, he coaches the squad 3 twice a week and at the club presentation evening he was give the Alwyn Pearce-Roberts Trophy. This trophy is given out annually to the swimmer who has Epitomized the true club spirit “Always Surfaces With A Smile”

Jak has had problems with his shoulder over the last 18 months to 2 years but this hasn’t stopped him swimming even when told to rest Jak has gone on to coach and support his fellow swimmers, taking the bare minimum time off from his own swimming.

Last year he got 1 NER time and went all the way to Sheffield for that 1 race! Didn’t deter him just spurred him on more to get more this year! He has until October

Went to derwentside charity meet at the weekend with the intention of getting more times and some medals. He had 3 times for NER’s but knew he could improve on this. Saturday came and they weren’t his favourite swims but out of the 4 he swam he managed to get 2 new personal bests which meant 2 more NER times, 200IM and 50m Breaststroke (one of the others he already had the time for!😂)

Sunday early start again and intensions of more pbs and hopefully more NER times. 100m butterfly was his first race, new pb but just missed out on NER time by .24!!! 🙈 3 more races to go, no more NER times but he did get a pb for 100m freestyle, finally getting his time for this to under 1 minuet! Something he and his coach have been working on for a while. Out of the 2 days he came home with 4 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medals! And a massive sense of pride and achievement!

He’s off to London on the 28th June to compete and hopefully get some more qualifying times, however he has a little more time and a few more galas to do this. Then it’s Sheffield for 2 days to complete at the NER’s (North East Regionals)

Step 6 results celebration.

Year 11 students attended a step 6 celebrations event on Tuesday 16 July. There was juice, savories and cakes and their results from the mock exams. Certificates were also given to students who had pushed them selves that little bit more in various subject area’s. Well done.

Healthy Hearts

Promoting a healthy lifestyle, Year 10 students walked from Freebrough Academy to Saltburn and back on a beautiful sunny morning. It’s about a 3 mile walk and the students really enjoyed it. They were Indie, Maisie, Ellie, Grace and Bethany.
