Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council are really keen to reach parents and families who may be interested in developing their entrepreneurial skills and business ideas to trade and test trade on our traditional market.
Our traditional markets have a strong heritage with a 700-year charter. They are a key unique selling point of our towns and the council are keen to support them to evolve and progress. They provide a valuable offer to our local communities and add diversity to our town centres. They are colourful and vibrant and provide employment opportunities for many individuals.
The market is award winning – winning “Best Large Outdoor Market” at the 2016 National Association of British Market Authorities annual awards.
Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council are ever keen to develop our traditional markets and continue to support them to grow and evolve.
They also particularly keen to attract a new generation of market traders and have, in partnership with their learning and skills team, developed a Level 1 accredited course to provide support and guidance to budding entrepreneurs to support, encourage and incentivise individuals to trade on our markets.
The course is called Perfect Pitch for Retail and provides a perfect introduction, support and guidance, in a relaxed informal setting. The course is funded and completely free to attend, minimum age 19. Plus, they will provide insurance, gazebo and 4 –week rent free opportunity for those who successfully complete the course to test-trade. The course is also supported by a number of their colleagues including the market’s manager, the business enterprise officer and environmental health officer to ensure that individuals are able to access appropriate information and advice.
The course starts on Tuesday 11 September, with places allocated on a first come, first served basis.
With brands such M & S, New Look, Superdry to name but a few all starting on markets, it’s a great opportunity for individuals to get started with your business ideas, and trading, with great potential!
