School Closure Letter 19-03-2020

19 March 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

School Closure
You will be aware from national news coverage that all schools will close on Friday 20 March until further notice. Since the Covid-19 crisis began, we have tried to ensure school has remained open and I would like to pay a tribute to staff on their unreserved commitment in ensuring that this has been the case. Over the coming weeks during national school closures, staff will continue to play their part.

Front-line Workers and vulnerable students
From Monday 23 March, schools have been advised to remain open for the follow groups of students:

• Students whose parents are Front-line workers. The Government has said these would include NHS staff, police and supermarket delivery drivers. However, others will be in this category and we expect to hear more from the Government on this in the coming days
• Those classed as what the Secretary of State described as “vulnerable children”. These could be those who have a social worker and those with EHCPs
For students in these groups, we have also been asked to try to remain open through the Easter holidays and we will do our best to achieve this.

Year 11 Exams and Assessments
The Government announced that all GCSE tests and exams will not take place this summer. Our students have worked extremely hard to prepare for these and we understand how unsettled and upsetting this is for them. At the same time, we have been reassured by the Government that exam boards are working with School Leaders to ensure our students will NOT be disadvantaged by this decision. Students will be awarded with the qualifications they need to progress to the next stage of their learning.

Today, we have met with all students who attended school to try and reassure them in these unprecedented times. Teachers have prepared work for them so that they can continue their learning at home. This will be regularly updated throughout the duration of the school closure; students have been asked to regularly check their school emails, Google Classroom and the school website for updates.

Although it is not certain when schools will re-open fully to all students, we will keep you informed and updated. Please check the school website regularly.

In the meantime, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you wholeheartedly for your understanding and ongoing support in helping us to manage this extraordinary situation.

Yours faithfully

D Butcher
