Thornaby Academy Weekly Update

Dear Parent/Carer

We hope you and your family continue to remain safe and well.  On behalf of staff, I would like to thank you for your continued support through what has been both an unprecedented and lengthy Lockdown! As we approach the end of the summer term, we ask that you continue to support your child’s learning at home through Google Classroom.  Please remember, paper resources of all the learning is available upon request.  Please contact the Academy by email on or by telephone on 01642 763244 for paper-based work.

Wider Opening of the Academy – Y10
This week we welcomed back Year 10 students.  All students attending have been a pleasure to teach.  They have taken part in an academic review and received pastoral support.  Subject specialists have led lessons in English and Maths too.  The students have been remarkable.  Because of the way they have adapted so quickly and readily to our health and safety precautions, we are now in a position to extend the time they are in school and thus provide a wider curriculum that includes Science.  Students have felt safe and valued the return of some kind of normality.  Parents of Year 10 students are encouraged to contact the Academy to discuss their child’s attendance at school in the remaining weeks of the summer term.

School Uniform Orders
Parents and carers should have received information regarding the ordering of school uniform.  Please submit the forms as soon as possible so that the order can be processed.  If there are any queries regarding uniform orders, please do not hesitate to contact the Academy.  Details on collecting orders will be sent before the end of the summer term.

Free School Meals
I am delighted that the Government has made a u-turn on the decision to issue e-vouchers over the summer holidays for students eligible for a free school meal.  These will be sent electronically in the first week of the holidays.  Parents and carers will receive £90.00 per child for this period.  Although the e-vouchers will be sent in one batch, they will be in £15 denominations with a September expiry date.

E-vouchers for the remainder of this term will be issued on Monday 22 June.  Families will receive £60.00 per child.  Please do not hesitate to contact the Academy if you experience any problems redeeming e-vouchers.

If your child does not currently receive free school meals, but you think you are eligible, please do not hesitate to contact us by email on or by telephone on 01642 763244.

On behalf of staff, thank you for your ongoing support and please stay safe.

Yours faithfully

D Butcher
