Thornaby Academy Weekly Update

Dear Parent/Carer

We hope this finds you and your family safe and well. We have been contacting parents of Year 10 students this week regarding these students spending some time in school during the summer term. Please be aware that this will not be full-time provision. Instead we propose some sessions, either morning or afternoon supervised by teaching staff, but not necessarily with their usual class teacher.

Our priority is that all students and staff are safe, therefore, students will be put together in small groups and will remain in that group every time they come into school. The provision that these students access during these sessions will be there to supplement the home learning activities that staff have been sending. It is an expectation that all students continue to complete the work set on Google classroom or paper-based work, which is available upon request.

Whether or not you send your child to the Academy is your decision and the government have made it clear that you will not be fined if your child does not attend.  Remember, should you need any further support, please get in touch by email on info@thornabyacademy.org.uk or by telephone on 01642 763244.

Free School Meals
I am delighted to tell you that although the Government is not funding the e-vouchers over the half term, we have made a decision to fund families with the vouchers for that week. The supermarket vouchers for this week, therefore, and next have now been issued. Although the vast majority of families have had no problems accessing these e-vouchers, there have been some issues for a few. If you any issues, please feel free to contact the Academy, we are there to support.

If your child does not currently receive free school meals, but you think you are eligible, please do not hesitate to contact us by email on info@thornabyacademy.org.uk or by telephone on 01642 763244.

Half-Term
The Academy will remain open during the half-term at the usual times for children of Front-line workers and vulnerable children, but will close on Monday 25 May for the Bank Holiday.

On behalf of staff, have a sunny bank holiday weekend, stay safe and remember social distancing.

Yours faithfully

D Butcher
Principal
